Ace Of Base – Happy Nation
1993

Ace Of Base gained initial interest in the Eurovision song contest… No wait. That was Abba. Sorry.
I’d say Ace Of Base are basically a techno version of Abba with a touch of dub and rap thrown in for good measure. They have a very similar knack of writing catchy songs and are very upbeat. Similar to Snap! and Dr Alban, they are heavily piano/keyboard and beat driven.
The album itself is quite a good listen, but in this day and age, it really hasn’t aged that well.
Standout tracks are All That She Wants, The Sign and Happy Nation.

Ace Of Base – Flowers
1998
I bought this because I found Happy Nation easy to get into. I figured I hadn’t heard them in a while and they might be quite refreshing to hear again. Wrong.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
This album is terrible.
Some bands like to “reinvent” themselves. Ace Of Base uninvented themselves. I’m sure there are some good points to this album, like a good beat on a few tracks or some nice harmonies here & there, but… The smell of cheese on this album is simply overpowering.
Standout tracks are…. ummm…. Oh my, is that the time already?!
