I grew up with one of my favourite vinyls being Beach Boys – Good Vibrations (which I later found out was never the title of an album of theirs, but a compilation).
The Beach boys are unmistakable in their sound (except for the whole Jan & Dean thing). The energy and metaphoric ‘sunshine’ from their music can brighten up [almost] any rainy day. Even Sloop John B (possibly my all time favourite Beach Boys song) makes singing about living a hard life on the seas smell like roses.
This album is by far one of the best ‘best of’ compilations around (not just for the Beach Boys but of any band).
There are 30 songs, 3/4 of which are fantastic. Naturally there are tracks that I could leave out, but there are no tracks that ruin the experience of this album and it has EVERY song of The Beach Boys that matters to me.
Standout tracks are most of them.
