1969
Like most people who can hear and have parents who were born pre ‘80’s, I have always been exposed to The Beatles.
Abbey Road is the only CD of The Beatles that I have (I have other vinyl, but not Abbey Road, which is why it was the first Beatles CD I bought).
I’m sure some of their albums are less memorable, but there are a lot of songs in this album that really make it stand out. Some (not all) of their earlier work might have been more a case of a band of hit writers being in the right place at the right time to reignite a stagnating music industry, but with Abbey Road the band really seem to be a group of musicians in tune with each other.
There is a nice flow and consistency to this album without being repetitive. There is a good dose of [non-soppy] ballads, a bit of homour and a very decent beat throughout. This album has been very nicely produced with certain songs having more emphasis placed on specific (and relevant) instruments.
For me this is a great album within it’s own right, rather then just being another Beatles album; one of the many ‘standout’ albums of theirs.
Standout tracks are at least 3/4 of them. Well worth while seeking out.
