I had a few cassingles and CD singles of The Black Crowes, but never got around to getting an album for one reason or another. I guess one reason is that with such a unique sound I was worried I would tire of them before the end of the cassette (see The White Stripes… in a few months… or more).
That said I always loved hearing them on the radio and always loved the B-Sides of the singles I had. But in a way I was right.
There are quite a few tracks which are absolute gold. The sound is very similar the whole way through and almost works to a formula (but a kick arse formula). If you’re not 100% in the mood for a Crowes session, you’ll probably lose interest before half way through.
Guitar riff driven dirty rock ‘n’ roll is what this is. It’s music that is very much at home on stage with some f*** off Marshall stacks blowin’ yer face off. Then there’s a couple of songs which just make you wanna whip out the Zippo and wave it back & forth while pretending to know the lyrics but yelling the chorus out.
Standout tracks are Jealous Again, Twice As Hard, Hard To Handle, She Talks To Angels & Remedy.
